Cornerstone Housing Cooperative

Cornerstone has existed since 1993 in Chapeltown. Currently we own two
large Victorian houses on Sholebroke Avenue which is home to 16 people.
We are a co-operative which places a strong emphasis on social change
and all our members are active in various projects locally, Leeds wide
and nationally. Key to our ethics is our membership of Radical Routes, a national co-operative of co-operatives which networks and supports financially, legally and otherwise co-operatives across the country.

We try to be quite demanding of our members but we are a live and
vibrant community that supports each other - despite the large number of
meetings we seem to have. Each house eats together and everyone is
expected to contribute to communal living. Meals are mostly vegan, and
the houses are vegetarian as a whole.

We have numerous projects on the go. Our large gardens are pretty active
and there is a strong permaculture ethos in the co-op. We have various
workshops - including woodworking and bicycle maintainance. One house
hosts the Cornerstone Resource Centre which is available for use by
local groups and is home to Footprint, the printing workers cooperative,
which has being going 10 years and various of our members work for.

At the time of writing we are filling up, though if you are interested
applying to us there it is always worth getting in touch as often places
do come up. We also welcome visitors who want to know more about
co-operative living - just make sure you get in touch first.

Several times a year we have work-weekends which are open to all and a
good way of meeting us. Then there are the somewhat legendary Summer and
Winter parties... If you want to be kept informed about upcoming events,
let us know.

If you want to know more or visit, feel free to get in touch. Contact

but a good way to find out about our work weekends, parties and other
social events which are ideal for learning more about us.
